Christine Prouty
Christy grew up right outside of Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating high school, she knew she wanted to do something in the realm of environmental research and protection, but wasn’t exactly sure how to get from point A to point B. As it turns out, she found out about an Environmental Engineering degree available at Louisiana State University, toured the campus, and fell in love with the place. Along the way, she realized that engineering wasn’t quite what she thought it was going to be and began to ask professors about ways to pursue engineering with more of a humanitarian approach. That’s how she found out about the MI program (Dr. Kelly Rusch, LSU). She then proceeded to research everything there was to know about the Peace Corps, the MI program, and what kind of international work Dr. Mihelcic had been a part of. After visiting USF during the late Fall of her senior year, Christy was blown away by the community created between the new MI students, faculty, and returning PC volunteers. She was ready to sign the dotted line before her trip to Tampa had even ended.
