Marisol Alvarez was born and raised in Northern California where she developed a love of the great outdoors. She attended California State University, Chico and received her undergraduate degree in civil engineering with a minor pathway in sustainability in 2019. During her final year at Chico State she completed her capstone design course in natural wastewater treatment systems and design a treatment system for Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.
Upon the completion of the design she and her design partner traveled to Guatemala to consult with engineers, NGO, and masters students interested in the project. After experiencing what it was like to be a part of an international project, Marisol decided she wanted to pursue a career in environmental engineering for international development. After expressing interest in this, several professor recommended applying to the Masters International program at USF.
Marisol hopes to spend her time at USF increasing her competence in sanitation, water treatment, and international literacy. Additionally she plans to continue developing her cooking, yoga, and sailing skills.
